10 useful tips to help you choose a Practitioner

I recently booked a session with an energetic healer I hadn’t worked with before. It was a little more than I wanted to pay but I booked anyway.

Why?

Because I noticed how many things the Practitioner was doing that I really appreciated. It gave me the impression he feels motivated to help me resolve my issue, authentic about what he does and committed to providing a good service.

I know from personal experience how frustrating and confusing it can be trying to hire a new Practitioner. But get it right, and the session may prove to be so transformative that it’s life-changing.

I still remember my first Reiki session in my late teens. It was the compassion and expertise of the Practitioner that planted the early seeds for my own Practitioner path.

Here’s all the things about my recent interaction with this Practitioner that felt positive and ultimately, made me part with more cash than I’d intended.

  1. The Practitioner conveys a good level of detail on their website and it clearly articulates what they offer. This includes information about their qualifications, experience and insurer.
  2. It has been easy to make contact and communicate with the Practitioner and they responded to my queries efficiently.
  3. Interacting with the Practitioner feels good! They took the time to answer my questions and their responses gave me confidence that they are able and motivated to help me address my issue.
  4. Their rates are competitive and what I’d anticipate for someone claiming their level of experience. Charging much less or lower than market rate would have raised alarm bells.
  5. They demonstrated good boundaries by letting me know they don’t work weekends so would get respond in the week.
  6. There are testimonials on their website from satisfied customers highlighting the positive changes they experienced following their session.
  7. Clear logistical details like payment information and how we would connect are provided – in this case via Zoom, which is fine for me.
  8. Not so important, but certainly it’s a plus if the Practitioner comes through word-of-mouth recommendation. In this instance the Practitioner was recommended to me by another energy worker who I also had a positive session with.
  9. The Practitioner was honest about the number of sessions I may require to resolve my issue (and their feedback was what I anticipated).
  10. Once we have connected during the session, the Practitioner said they would let me know right away if my issue isn’t going to be someting they can assist with, and in this scenario, a refund will be offered. This kind of “security offer” is not essential but gave me some extra reassurance.

(I also clarified with them before the session that, since I am myself an energy worker, they are open to me letting them know if I feel our connection is not strong enough or if I feel that no significant changes have occurred once the session is completed.)

I hope this post makes selecting a Practitioner a little easier, and you have a positive session. If you’re confused about who to choose, drop me a line and let me know where you’re getting stuck.

A week of Qigong training among the trees🌳

Summer's been spent away from social media dealing with some big life stresses, renovating a 19th century cottage and enjoying a rather unexpected jaunt back into the corporate world writing about legal technologies. (It was actually fun!)

In August, I was invited to talk on a podcast by a former PR friend and colleague who is such an inspiration. The amount that woman has been through! She is all about helping others to be happy which chimes with my holistic work - although for me it's about finding balance as a path to happiness, and leading a fulfilling life.

We talked about how I integrate my holistic work alongside my 'heady' corporate world (15 years working in the city of London). Theyre a balance that works well for me - a bit of cognitive brain-led stuff geeking out on something techy - and then my sensing and feeling work and the eternal exploration of Chinese Medicine. There is always something new to learn!

Now I'm happy to be back in community exploring 'stillness and movement', via the Shibashi Set Two, and hanging out among the hazel grove protecting the yurt - the haven for our training and the perfect sanctuary when the heavens poured and the winds blew. The elements have really thrown it all this week!

I led the final meditation on our last day and of course it had to be about the oak. This tree always draws me in the most. Wherever there is an oak, I will want to be near it! The wind howled as we drifted into the ki field of our oak friends and sat in communion with the power of the tees, from roots to crown. A small but very bright rainbow was waiting for us when we stepped outside the yurt.

Ive got tons of new inspiration to bring into my own and group practices as I head to tropical pastures for winter.✌️🌴

Catch me in Goa to practice Qigong in a new location - coming soon!

About Me

I founded SJA Holistics to help people get well, feel great, and stay well using the power of practices derived from Eastern Medicine including Shiatsu, Reiki, Acupressure and Qi Gong.

For over a decade I’ve worked with Ki and have first-hand experience of how energy- and body-work can lead to positive health. Working with the energy body as well as the physical can bring profound changes to mental, emotional and physical issues.

After completing three years of study for the Professional Shiatsu Diploma, I honed my experience working voluntarily for six months in a national UK charity giving Shiatsu to people recovering from substance misuse.

It is my mission to help you recognise your own self-healing ability and to empower you with the skills and knowledge you need to dramatically improve your self-care.
