Bringing you free resources to support your health and wellness through the winter months, and as we live through a global pandemic
After a long and challenging 2020 marred by the stresses and strains of one of the biggest pandemics the world has seen since the Spanish Flu of 1918, attention has turned to our health given the spotlight on immunity and our lungs. To guard against contracting Covid-19 more people are looking to protect and prevent, and have started seeking new ways to boost their self-care.
More of us are now acutely aware that looking for a cure once we are unwell, rather than focusing on preventing illness from arising, is no longer a strategy we can safely rely on.
The need to safeguard ourselves when we are in good health has come into focus. More people have been asking me about non-medical therapies such as herbalism, Shiatsu, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, Reiki and Qi Gong. They each have a role to play in helping to maintain health and prevent sickness from taking root.
Self-Shiatsu for touch – a life essential
At the same time, touch therapies such as Shiatsu are becoming particularly valued for their ability to relieve “touch-hunger”. With social distancing rules separating us from friends, family and Practitioners, self-Shiatsuis becoming a new form of self-care.
Positive, compassionate touch – both received from a professional Practitioner and the touch we can give ourselves – can help to calm, reassure and bring relief from all kinds of pain.
The launch of Touch for Life
Mindful of the need to help people equip themselves with better self-care practices, and of the power of touch in my work as a Shiatsu Practitioner, I worked with my colleagues (other volunteer Members and Directors) at the Shiatsu Society to devise and launch the “Touch for Life” campaign.
Throughout December and January, the Shiatsu Society is sharing tips and guidance to support you through the winter months. The Shiatsu-based practices are as easy to follow from home as yoga. Don’t forget to share the practices with your friends and family, too.
